Why “Cuying”?
My highschool buddies used to fondly call me by that name. I found the name unique in the blogosphere so I went for it. I did not want my header title to be descriptive. I wanted to use a word that did not yet exist in any dictionary. And "Cuying" just sounded right.

What does the acronym “MSC” stand for?
The initials M.S.C. come from the Latin: Missionarii Sacratissimi Cordis (Missionaries of the Sacred Heart). The MSC is an international community of religious men of the Catholic Church who work to deepen the appreciation of God's love. Some minister in parishes, schools, hospitals, prisons, indigenous communities, and in special apostolic activities that lead people to healing and liberation. Others proclaim the compassion of God as revealed in the Heart of Christ by going to missions overseas. MSC are active in over 40 countries, most of them in the Third World. I became a perpetually professed MSC in June 1997 and was ordained priest in November 1998.

Your reason for blogging & podcasting?
I consider blogs and podcasts as today's most effective tools in sharing personal reflections and in proclaiming God's liberating message of joy, peace and love online.

What do you blog/podcast about?
Anything that interests me, but concentrating largely on life, faith, linux, open source, filipino migrants, and mediated communications (www, photography, film, etc).

I podcast once a week. I play some podsafe tunes, converse with friends about their faith-life experiences, talk about social issues and the missionary aspect of the Church. It's really a mash-up of anything worth rambling about.

When did you start blogging/podcasting?
I began blogging in late January 2005. However you will see here posts dating back to 2001. Those entries came from my previous webpage hosted by Geocities. Twas the time when an online journal was not yet called blogging.

I began podcasting lat 26 April 2005. I think I am historically the first ever Filipino priest podcaster.

What OS do you use?
I use SuSE Linux 9.2 Professional. Its performance is what you'd expect from a cutting edge operating system. My preferred browser is Opera and Konqueror comes next. For word processing I use OpenOffice Writer. Kaffeine is my preferred program for playing audio. Linux is simply a better experience than Windows.

How do you create your graphics?
I have drawn on paper some of the graphics used in this blog, then scan them and edit them digitally using Photoshop 7. I wanted my graphics and images to be as original as possible. All the knowhow I have of the softwares I use, including a bit of html, is self-taught.

How do you create your podcast audio?
For home-studio recording (actually it's just my bedroom with lots of wires) I use a Behringer B-1 microphone connected to a Behringer Eurorack UB1204 Pro which is in turn connected to a Toshiba Satellite laptop. When I am outside I use a Sony MZ-NH700 Hi-MD recorder and a Sony MS908 electret condenser microphone.  With my linux box I use Audacity for audio editing.  And with my XP computer I use Adobe Audition (only because Adobe Audition does not run on linux yet). For my background tracks I use only royalty free music. All my MP3s have the following specs: 128Kbps, 44100Hz sample rate and 16 CBR resolution.
